Ref: 85 Date Posted: Thursday 29 Oct 2026

McGeorge Appointments is recruiting an experienced Senior Insolvency Administrator or Assistant Manager for a highly respected firm in Edinburgh.

This is an excellent opportunity for an insolvency professional who wants to develop their technical expertise while gaining exposure to a varied portfolio of corporate and personal insolvency assignments. The portfolio is split across both corporate and personal insolvency, with instructions originating from solicitors, banks and HM Revenue & Customs across a broad range of sectors.

Approximately one third of the firm’s cases progress to litigation, giving the successful candidate regular involvement in contentious, investigatory and litigation-related work. You will work closely with experienced Managers, Senior Managers and Directors in a collaborative professional environment.

The Role

Reporting to a Manager, you will take responsibility for progressing a portfolio of corporate and personal insolvency cases, ensuring that assignments are managed efficiently, accurately and in accordance with statutory requirements.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Managing insolvency cases from pre-appointment through to closure
  • Preparing statutory notices, reports, returns and other case documentation
  • Monitoring statutory deadlines, case milestones, budgets and agreed timescales
  • Assisting with investigations into the conduct of directors and debtors, antecedent transactions, asset realisations and creditor claims
  • Preparing financial analyses, estimated outcome statements, receipts and payments accounts, case reviews and supporting schedules
  • Producing clear correspondence and reports for creditors, directors, debtors, employees, solicitors, banks, HMRC and other stakeholders
  • Supporting contentious and litigation-related assignments, including collating evidence and maintaining clear audit trails
  • Assisting with the adjudication of creditor claims and distributions
  • Identifying unusual transactions, risks and potential recovery opportunities
  • Contributing to proposals, options papers and other client-facing documents
  • Providing guidance and technical support to less experienced colleagues
  • Assisting senior colleagues with insolvency, forensic accounting and litigation-support assignments as required

About You

You will already have practical insolvency experience and a sound understanding of the accounting principles that underpin insolvency casework. Previous experience gained within a firm of chartered accountants would be advantageous.

To be considered, you should have:

  • A minimum of two years’ practical insolvency experience
  • Experience of corporate insolvency, personal insolvency or ideally both
  • Working knowledge of insolvency procedures and associated statutory requirements
  • A good grounding in accounting, with the ability to interpret financial statements, ledgers and supporting records
  • Experience of maintaining accurate case files and working to statutory deadlines
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Good analytical and investigatory abilities
  • Excellent attention to detail and high standards of accuracy
  • The ability to organise and prioritise a varied, deadline-driven workload
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel
  • A professional approach to confidentiality, independence and ethical conduct

The Certificate of Proficiency in Insolvency (CPI) is highly desirable, although applications are welcomed from suitably experienced candidates who can demonstrate strong technical knowledge and a commitment to continued professional development.

What’s on Offer

  • Salary of £35,000 to £48,000, dependent on experience, qualifications and level of appointment
  • Employer pension arrangements
  • Generous employee benefits
  • Full study support towards the JIEB qualification
  • Exposure to a broad portfolio of corporate and personal insolvency assignments
  • Regular involvement in investigatory, contentious and litigation-support work
  • Opportunities to work closely with senior members of the practice
  • A strong platform for continued technical and professional development
